The first thing that hits you when you arrive is the view. The clubhouse sits at the edge of the course, overlooking most of the holes.
Overlooking most of the holes, except the ones hidden from view behind the dunes. In fact, most of the holes you see from the clubhouse belong to the nine hole St Olaf course, not the main course. This doesn’t make the view any less impressive though. Soak it in.
The main curse was originally designed by Tom Morris and Archie Simpson in 1899. In the 1920s the design was tweaked by Tom Simpson and Herbert Fowler, and little has changed since then. Times have been good, and times have been bad. In the 1950s the course was almost forced to close, but was rescued at the last minute by some local businessmen. The present clubhouse was built in 1998, complete with restaurant and bar and the aforementioned great view.
You’ll find a small but well-stocked pro shop on the clubhouse’s ground floor, right next to the first tee.
